Celebrating 70 years of our Leylands Estate

Leylands Estate, Derby celebrated its 70-year anniversary on 20 October 2025.

An elderly man smiles at the camera, sitting at a wooden table with a smart display showing "Greatest Hits Radio" by a window.

“It has been such a blessing to have a home like this.”

Michael, who is registered blind, moved into his cottage on the Leylands Estate in Derby in August 2020. In 2023 it was converted to a smart home, transforming Michael’s life and enabling him to continue living in his own home.

Aged hands with a ring play a black grand piano, fingers pressing keys. Soft light from a window illuminates the scene.

“I am treated as a person with value for once in my life.”

Charles moved into his flat in the Hugh Fraser Retirement Estate at the beginning of 2020. He’d been living in a bedsit where he slept on a sofa. Due to antisocial behaviour in the local area, he felt too afraid to leave his home.

A silver studded frame displays a black and white photo of a mother and child holding hands. Text reads "Mum..." and "...everything I am I owe to you".

“I have my independence but help is there when I need it.”

Jean, who lives in one of our extra-care flats, moved to the Leylands Estate over 20 years ago and has lived in three different properties as her needs have changed.
