The National Association of Business Crime Partnerships is the national representative body for Business Crime Reduction Partnerships (BCRPs) across the UK. A BCRP, sometimes referred to as a ‘shop watch scheme’, is a not-for-profit organisation with the purpose of uniting the retail community with local police and other agencies, to share information to prevent crime, abuse, and antisocial behaviour. Local BCRPs connect with local people who work in retail, empowering them with knowledge, information, and the means to communicate – via a walkie talkie radio network, intel sharing apps, and regular briefings and meetings. This approach enables the identification of perpetrators at a much earlier stage, to prevent a crime from happening in the first place, or to know the name who was responsible so it can be reported to the police for action to be taken. Sharing information and working together enables us to build a local intelligence picture that no other agency has, and our voices are louder when we collaborate to raise our concerns.
