A snapshot into the wellbeing of the sector, powered by extensive data from our happiness dashboard, as well as our happiness assessment which is delivered with WorkL.

In recent years there has been a growing recognition that workplace wellbeing is not only important for employees’ personal hope, health and happiness, but also a workplace that prioritises employee wellbeing, where people feel engaged, valued and respected, has a direct impact on a business’s productivity by retaining and recruiting great talent and reducing presenteeism and absenteeism.

Chris Brook-Carter, chief executive of the Retail Trust, said: “We’ve launched this new quarterly index with AlixPartners to uncover the key trends in workplace wellbeing across the retail sector so that we in the industry can better respond to the needs of our colleagues when it comes to creating happier, healthier and ultimately more productive businesses. Thank you to AlixPartners for their support of this project and to our data partner WorkL for helping make this happen.”

Laura Bond, director of AlixPartners, said: “So much effort goes into attracting and developing retail talent, but retention is perhaps the softer side that businesses do not always do so well. However, building a strong culture is the secret sauce to an engaged workforce that will perpetuate a sense of belonging and purpose, driving business performance in the process.”

The index will also delve into flight risk, and wellbeing and presenteeism indicators to highlight the further potential impact disengaged colleagues have on a business.
