“I’ve seen a lot of theft in the last six years of working in retail and you can see when one of your team is getting emotionally worked up in situations. It’s a matter of providing support to them and making sure their voice is heard. Their confidence takes a massive battering and that’s not what we want – coming in to work, it should be a safe space.

“What I liked about the Retail Trust training is that you guys touched on a lot of stuff we’re doing in our store already. I really enjoyed listening and re-emphasising that to our store teams. I think there’s a wider education piece that we need to do within retail because we know that theft is bad, there’s a cost-of-living crisis and that makes it challenging for people. It’s about helping colleagues to understand why things happen and not to take it personally.”
