“I am fortunate that my employer doesn’t tolerate customer abuse, but I have noticed an increasing apathy among customers. It’s like some people think retail workers are robots and not people. You’ll ask them questions and they’ll ignore you or complain that they don’t have a bag or receipt.
“In my previous job, my mental and physical health really suffered – I had a customer throw stock at me and one who aggressively cornered me in the store toilets. But I’m much happier here and my current boss often reminds me that I’m not here to be shouted at.”
