Managing violence and aggression

This course is designed to help teams that manage a higher level of risk, including security staff, to identify, de-escalate and manage conflict in a safe, confident and proactive manner. The training focusses heavily on de-escalation, covering risk assessment practices, communication skills and models, positive body language, de-escalation strategies, stance and positioning skills.

What it covers

The course will examine how to respond safely, effectively and lawfully to those situations, which despite staff’s best endeavours, escalate. It will include some physical skills that may be used as a last resort.

• Recognising and responding to challenging behaviour
• Demonstrating excellent communication skills
• Reducing risks for individuals and visitors
• Escaping from an aggressive situation
• Holding and relocating using accredited techniques
• Understanding the legal and medical implications of restraint
• Competently reporting and debriefing incidents
