Our breakaway disengagement course is designed to equip colleagues with the practical skills and confidence to safely remove themselves from potential harm. The simple, effective techniques provide an opportunity to disengage from an individual’s grasp and escape safely, all while ensuring an understanding of the legal and medical considerations of using any physical skills technique.

What it covers

For teams facing a higher level of risk, such as security staff or teaching colleagues, this course provides essential skills to identify, de-escalate and manage conflict safely and proactively. The training focuses on de-escalation strategies, including risk assessment, communication skills, positive body language, stance and positioning techniques.Even with the best de-escalation efforts, some situations may escalate.

This course also provides safe, effective and legally sound physical response techniques as a last resort:

• Recognising and responding to challenging behaviour
• Demonstrating excellent communication skills
• Reducing risks for individuals and visitors
• Escaping from an aggressive situation
• Holding and relocating using accredited techniques
• Understanding the legal and medical implications of restraint
• Competently reporting and debriefing incidents
